Five Worlds to Explore
Words by Carol Lee Spages
Tune: "It's a Small World"
Chorus:
- There are five worlds to explore
- There are five worlds to explore
- There are five worlds to explore
- There are five big Girl Scout worlds
- There's a World of Arts and People, true.
- There's a World of Today and Tomorrow, too.
- There's a World of Well Being and of all Out-of-Doors
- There are five big Girl Scout worlds.
Chorus
- Oh, the World of Arts is a bright, fun place.
- We can sing, try a dance, even paint a face.
- Things to carve, things to print, we can weave, we can tint,
- Art is one big Girl Scout world.
Chorus
- It's people that make this big world go round
- They are black, yellow, white, red, and golden brown.
- 'Tho we're not just the same, understanding is our aim.
- People share this Girl Scout world.
Chorus
- The World of Out-of-Doors has a place for all,
- Pitch a tent, hike a hill, heed the campfire's call.
- Learn to live with concern and to share what we learn.
- We protect our Out-of-Doors World.
Chorus
- We can run, hop, skip, jump, and throw a ball,
- Learn to eat what is good so we grow up tall.
- With Well Being in mind, we leave troubles behind.
- We will be safe in this big World.
Chorus
- The World of Today and Tomorrow is fun,
- Science, math, fix a leak, see how engines run.
- Fly a plane in the sky, learn to find how and why,
- We discover our big world.
Chorus
Girl Scouts Together
- Girl Scouts together, that is our song,
- Winding the old trails, rocky and long.
- Learning our motto, living our creed.
- Girl Scouts together, in every good deed.
- Girl Scouts together, happy are we,
- Friendly to neighbors far o'er the sea;
- Faithful to country, loyal to home,
- Known as true Girl Scouts, wherever we roam.
- Girl Scouts together, onward we go,
- Joining as sisters, stronger we grow;
- Doctors and lawyers, women in space,
- We know no boundaries, the future's our place.
I Will Do My Best
By NancyJean Tripp and Sue Stitt
- I will do my best to be honest.
- I will do my best to be fair.
- I will do my best through my words and my deeds to show how much I
really care.
Chorus:
- I'm just one girl in this great wide world, I can't go on every
quest.
- But I will do all I can do, and I will do my best.
- I will do my best to be a sister,
- To each and every girl scout;
- To observe, conserve, and preserve the natural wonders all about.
Chorus
- I will do my best to be wherever,
- I am needed to be.
- To live by the law and my promise but most of all to always be me.
Chorus
She Wears a "G"
- She wears a G for generosity,
- She wears an I for interest too,
- She wears an R for real-life sportsmanship,
- She wears an L for loyalty, for loyalty.
- She wears an S for her sincerity,
- She wears an C for courtesy, for courtesy.
- She wears an O-U-T for outdoor life, outdoor life.
- You can bet she's a real Girl Scout!
On My Honor
By Cindy Dasch
Chorus:
- On my honor, I will try.
- There's a duty to be done and I say aye;
- There's a reason here for a reason above;
- My honor is to try and my duty is to love.
- People don't need to know my name.
- If I do any harm then I'm to blame.
- When I help another--I help me,
- If I've opened up my eyes to see.
- I've tucked away a song or two.
- If you're feeling low, there's one for you.
- When you need a friend, then I will come;
- There are many more where I come from.
Chorus
- Come with me where a fire burns bright.
- We can see even better by a candle's light,
- But we find more meaning in a campfire's glow,
- Than we'd ever learn in a year or so.
- Friendship is the strangest thing,
- If you keep it to yourself no reward will it bring.
- If you give it away and you give it to me,
- From now on great friends we'll be.
- We've made a promise to always keep,
- And the day is done before we sleep.
- We'll be Girl Scouts together, and when we're gone,
- We'll still be trying and singing this song:
Chorus
Our Chalet Song
- High up, high on the mountain, we've founded our Chalet;
- High up, high on the mountain, we've founded our Chalet;
- Its sloping roof and wide shall shelter us without a care,
- And each Girl Scout and Guide shall find a welcome there.
- Lá-haut, sur la montagne, il est un grand Chalet;
- Lá-haut, sur la montagne, il est un grand Chalet;
- Son larg-e toit pen-ché A-bri-te-ra notre a-mi-tié;
- Pour nous, les E-clai-reus-es, Qu'il soit un vrai foy-er.
- High up, high on the mountain, we'll go to our Chalet;
- High up, high on the mountain, we'll go to our Chalet;
- Our simple life is free, our hearts are light, our songs are gay,
- We ever shall remember the joys of our Chalet.
- High up, high on the mountain, we've founded our Chalet;
- High up, high on the mountain, we've founded our Chalet;
- And this its dedication shall never fail nor be undone:
- Each race, each creed, each nation, beneath its roof are one.
We Change The World
Words and Music by Melinda Caroll
Chorus:
- Change the world come with me
- Time to let our dreams fly free
- And it comes so easily, that is our way
- Every moment we're alive
- It's our love that will survive
- In the Girls Scouts, together,
- We change the world
- Sisters of every color, friends from everywhere
- We all make a difference, when we show the world we care.
- The Girl Scouts are our family, and they show us what we can be
- And I believe, together, we change the world.
Chorus
- In America, we have so much to give
- To our sisters around the world who are struggling just to live.
- Light the light and do our share, reach out your hand and someone's
there.
- And I believe, together, we change the world.
Chorus
Girl Scout Vespers
The following was inspired by altering verses orginally created by the
Canadian 3rd Aurora Borealis Venturers and Nomad Rovers and heard
around many campfires in their South Lake Simcoe District, Ont. The
Canadian version is published in "The Best of the Leader", a
Scouts Canada publication.
Tune: "O Tannenbaum"
- Softly falls the light of day,
- As our campfire fades away,
- Silently each Daisy asks,
- Have I done my daily tasks?
- Did I give the world my care,
- Remembering to smile and share?
- Daisies learning to be fair,
- Cheerfullness is always there.
- Softly falls the light of day,
- As our campfire fades away,
- Silently each Brownie asks,
- Have I done my daily tasks?
- Did I offer friendship true?
- Have I kept my promise too?
- Did I try to do my best?
- Have I earned a quiet rest?
- Softly falls the light of day,
- As our campfire fades away,
- Silently each Junior asks,
- Have I done my daily tasks?
- Have I kept my honor bright?
- Can I guiltless sleep tonight?
- Have I done and have I dared,
- Everything to be prepared?
- Softly falls the light of day,
- As our campfire fades away,
- Silently each Cadette asks,
- Have I done my daily tasks?
- Did I do good turns today?
- Helped another along the way?
- Have I met my challenge true?
- Side by side, we'll see it through,
- Softly falls the light of day,
- As our campfire fades away,
- Silently each Senior asks,
- Have I done my daily tasks?
- Taken care of those in need,
- Shown respect in word and deed?
- Have I helped out all I can,
- Guided by our Founder's hand?
A Bridging/Parting Hymn
- Oh, Girl Scouts, thy daughters grow sturdy and strong,
- Some must bridge from the [Brownies/Juniors/etc.] today.
- ----------------------------------------------------------
- Some must part from their sisters today.
- ----------------------------------------------------------
- Their faces are turned to the pathway beyond,
- But their hearts with their comrades will stay.
- The Promise and Law, they will never forget,
- We be of one bond, sisters true.
- Good Girl Scouting to those who are honest and fair.
- May fond memories be always with you
Growing up in Girl Scouts
- Daisy
-
- I've something in my pocket ...
- That's what the big girls say.
- I'll have a pocket of my own,
- When I wear brown someday.
-
- My life is bright and easy,
- I smile most of the day.
- I'm having lots of fun now,
- I sing and laugh and play!
-
- Junior
-
- I've something in my pocket ...
- That's what I used to say.
- I spent my time so aimlessly,
- At home, at school, at play.
-
- Now every day is special,
- I'm searching, who am I?
- Only I can find that out
- Please let me have a try!
-
- Cadette
-
- I've something in my pocket ...
- That's what I used to say.
- Playing childhood games with friends,
- Seems just like yesterday.
-
- I'm becoming a young woman,
- Soon I'll be a child no more,
- There's lots of opportunity,
- And so much to explore.
-
- Senior
-
- I've something in my pocket ...
- That's what I used to say.
- Then Mother Nature waved her hand
- And childhood flew away.
-
- Today my needs are different,
- I wonder, 'What will be?'
- I'm making life decisions now,
- The choice is up to me.
Way Down South in Old Savannah
[To the tune of "Dixie"]
- Oh, way down south in old Savannah
- First was raised the Girl Scout banner
- Daisy Low, Daisy Low, Daisy Low, founder dear.
- Girl Scouting spreads to either ocean,
- Millions bring you deep devotion.
- Daisy Low, Daisy Low, Daisy Low, founder dear.
-
- Chorus:
-
- Oh, way down south in Dixie,
- Daisy Low, Daisy Low,
- The Girl Scout band from every land
- Shall praise your name forever,
- Daisy Low, Daisy Low,
- Our love shall fail you never.
- Daisy Low, Daisy Low,
- Dwell in our hearts forever.
A Hiking Song
[To the tune of "Pack Up Your Your Troubles..."]
- Pack up your luncheon in your brown knapsack
- And hike, hike, hike.
- Take all you need upon your own strong back
- Wander where you like.
- Leave the road to motor cars,
- The sidewalks to the bikes---but ...
- Pack up your luncheon in your brown knapsack
- And hike, hike, hike.
Glorious Girl Scouts
[To the tune of "K-K-K-Katy"]
- G-G-G-Girl Scouts, glorious Girl Scouts!
- You're the only wonderful girls that rate our best.
- And when you march by, under your troop flags,
- We'll be cheering for your G-G-G-G-Green {B-B-B-B-Blue} vests!
There's A Long, Long Line A-growing
[To the tune of "There's A Long, Long Trail A-winding"]
- There's a long, long line a-growing,
- From north to south, east and west.
- There's a place a-waiting in it too,
- That you will fill best.
- We are sure you'd like to join us,
- If you know what we can do.
- And we'd like, oh how we'd like to
- Make a fine Girl Scout of you.
Hip, Hip, Hurrah for the Girl Scouts
[To the tune of "Marching Through Georgia"]
- Everywhere you go today, you'll find a Girl Scout
- Work or play, they lead the way, there can't be any doubt.
- When their country calls them,
- They answer with a shout ...
- Hip, hip, hurrah for the Girl Scouts!
-
- Chorus:
-
- Hurrah, hurrah, Girl Scouts are on their way,
- Hurrah, hurrah, we're surely here to stay.
- Good friends all around the world,
- We're growing every day,
- Hip, hip, hurrah for the Girl Scouts!
-
- Nothing is too big or small for any Girl to do
- Call us if you need our help,
- And we will see you through.
- Here's our motto---"Be Prepared"
- We mean it, yet we do...
- Hip, hip, hurrah for the Girl Scouts!
Hardships of Camp
Tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic
- The Leaders they do nothing and Assistants they do less
- LITs do cooking and they make an awful mess
- Camp Aides make the cocoa and they pinch the biggest cup
- But all the poor old Girl Scout gets is dirty washing up
-
- CHORUS:
-
- That's the way they treat the Girl Scouts,
- That's the way they treat the Girl Scouts,
- That's the way they treat the Girl Scouts,
- When we're all away at camp.
-
- The Leaders go by motor cars, Assistants go by bus,
- LITs have bicycles, and never make a fuss,
- Camp Aides they have roller skates and roll along the way
- But all the poor old Girl Scouts get is marching all the way.
-
- Leaders they have bungalows, Assistants they have flats,
- LITs have wooden huts and think them grand at that
- Camp Aides they have canvas tents, with groundsheets on the floors,
- But all the poor old Girl Scout gets is sleeping out of doors
-
- Leaders they drink coffee, Assistants they drink tea
- LITs drink lots of coke, it makes them need to [go]
- Camp Aides they drink lemonade, and sip it through a straw
- But all the poor old Girl Scout gets is water more and more.
-
- Leaders go to Disney World, Assistants go to France,
- LITs have parties where they often get to dance
- Camp Aides go to movies, just to see the bad guys croak
- But all the poor old Girl Scout gets is the sidewalk 'cause she's
broke!
Where Have All the Girl Scouts Gone
(tune: "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?)
- Where have all the Daisies gone, long time growing
- Where have all the Daisies gone, in just a year
- Where have all the Daisies gone,
- Gone to Brownies every one
- They've got so much to learn,
- They've got so much to learn.
-
- Where have all the Brownies gone, growing up so fast,
- Where have all the Brownies gone, it took three years.
- Where have all the Brownies gone,
- Gone to Juniors every one.
- There's still some more to learn,
- There's still some more to learn.
-
- Where have all the Juniors gone, no longer little girls,
- Where have all the Juniors gone, middle school's this fall.
- Where have all the Juniors gone
- Gone to Cadettes every one.
- It's groovy, so they say,
- It's groovy, so they say.
-
- Where have all the Cadettes gone, young women standing tall,
- Where have all the Cadettes gone, high school draws near.
- Where have all the Cadettes gone,
- Gone to Seniors every one.
- We love to be Girl Scouts,
- We love to be GIRL SCOUTS!
